Missourians have been devastated by disasters this year that it is difficult to comprehend the impact the tornadoes and flooding have had on the towns of Joplin, Bridgeton, Poplar Bluff and many other communities across our state. This is the worst tornado in decades, and our help is badly needed in Joplin. As heroic efforts are being made by firefighters and police, nurses and other health care workers, we are grateful that we can depend on the public employees that protect and serve our families and community every day, but especially in times of crisis.
The rescue and the rebuilding of Joplin and our other communities will require tremendous support on the state and federal levels. Missourians who have lost family members, homes and jobs will need our help not only now but in the weeks and months to follow.
Our thoughts and prayers are with our members, their families and the entire community of Joplin, Missouri. As more storms threaten our state, we are particularly concerned about the safety of the first responders and others, many union members, working to rescue those trapped in the rubble, caring for the injured and helping restore power and provide for the countless needs of the community.
Heart of Missouri United Way is helping to raise awareness, coordinate relief and raise disaster relief funds. Text-to-Give: Text JOPLIN to 864833 to give a gift of $10 to the disaster relief effort.
